Spanair plane crashes on runway
Aug 20 - At least 45 people are dead after a Spanair plane crashed on the runway at Madrid airport.
The incident occurred as the plane was taking off to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, the airports authority said. Scores of people have been injured in the accident. Smoke was billowing from the plane at Madrid's Terminal Four.
El Mundo newspaper said the aircraft was carrying 160 passengers.
